A hair transplant in Colombia is one of the simpler medical trips to plan: it is done under local anesthesia, it takes a day or two, and most patients are cleared to fly home within 48 hours. Clinics price it the same way the rest of the world does — per graft — which makes quotes easy to compare once you know how many grafts you need.
This guide sets out what clinics in Medellín and Bogotá publish on their own sites, the cost at common graft counts, how FUE, DHI and robotic extraction differ, and the questions that tell you who will actually be holding the instruments. Every price below links to the clinic page it came from.
01What does a hair transplant cost in Colombia?
The clearest published price is Colombia Care’s in Medellín: $1.30 per graft for FUE or DHI, $1.50 per graft for women and $1.70 for afro-textured hair. The clinic says a typical case of 2,000–2,500 grafts comes to $2,600–3,250, including transfers, medication, the first wash and 12 months of follow-up1.
Dr. David Delgado, who uses the ARTAS iX robotic system in Medellín, publishes a starting price of $3,000 for small areas and about COP 25,000,000 for larger plans — roughly $8,174 at the exchange rate the page states2.

What we can’t give you is a US comparison figure. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery’s 2025 Practice Census, the main survey of the specialty, contains no fee data4, and we won’t invent one. If you are weighing the colombia hair transplant cost against home, ask two or three US clinics for a written per-graft price and compare like for like.
02Hair transplant cost in Colombia by graft count
Because the price is per graft, the total follows directly from your graft count. For scale, ISHRS reports an average of 2,262 grafts per FUE case4. The table applies Colombia Care’s published rates:
| Grafts | $1.30 (standard) | $1.50 (women) | $1.70 (afro-textured) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,500 | $1,950 | $2,250 | $2,550 |
| 2,000 | $2,600 | $3,000 | $3,400 |
| 2,262 ISHRS FUE average | $2,941 | $3,393 | $3,845 |
| 2,500 | $3,250 | $3,750 | $4,250 |
| 3,000 | $3,900 | $4,500 | $5,100 |
Our arithmetic from Colombia Care’s published per-graft rates, seen September 22, 2026. Not a quote: the clinic sets the graft count after assessing your photos or an in-person exam.
The number that matters is the graft count on your written plan. Two clinics can quote the same per-graft price and very different totals because they estimate differently — ask each one how it arrived at its number.
03Hair transplant cost: Colombia, clinic by clinic
These are the prices clinics publish themselves. We list clinics because they publish prices, not because we rank them — our inclusion rules are on the how we verify page.
| Clinic | City | Published price (USD) | What the price covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colombia Care | Medellín | $1.30 / graft | FUE & DHI; $1.50 women, $1.70 afro-textured; 2,000–2,500 grafts = $2,600–3,250; 12-month follow-up |
| Dr. David Delgado (ARTAS iX robotic FUE) | Medellín | from $3,000 | Small areas; larger plans ~COP 25,000,000 (≈ $8,174 at the clinic’s stated rate) |
| Bogota Hairlines | Bogotá | not published | Fixed all-inclusive price by Norwood stage, on request |
Prices as published on each clinic’s own site, seen September 22, 2026. They are starting prices, not quotes — every clinic sets the final price after reviewing your records or a consultation. We re-check them twice a year.
The hair transplant cost in Colombia is not the whole budget: add flights and two to four nights of lodging. Because the stay is short, the trip costs less to organize than most other procedures.
04What the price should include
In Colombia Care’s published price
- The grafts, at the per-graft rate
- Airport transfers
- Medication
- The first post-operative wash
- 12 months of follow-up
Ask about, or arrange yourself
- Flights and hotel nights
- Blood tests before surgery
- What happens if more grafts are needed on the day
- A second session, if one is ever needed
- How follow-up works once you’re home (photos, video calls)
Ask for the per-graft price, the estimated graft count and the inclusions on one written plan. A total without a graft count can’t be compared with anything.
05FUE vs DHI vs robotic: which method?
All three move individual follicular units — small natural groups of hairs — from the donor area at the back and sides of the head to the thinning zone. They differ in how the grafts are removed and placed.
- FUE (follicular unit extraction). Grafts are extracted one by one with a small punch; the surgeon then makes recipient sites and the grafts are placed into them. It is what most people mean by an FUE hair transplant: Colombia’s published per-graft prices are for this method and DHI.
- DHI (direct hair implantation). A variation of FUE in which each graft is loaded into an implanter pen and placed directly, without making all the recipient sites first. Colombia Care charges the same per-graft price for FUE and DHI1.
- Robotic FUE (ARTAS). A robotic system assists with identifying and extracting grafts. Dr. Delgado’s Medellín practice uses the ARTAS iX2. It changes how extraction is done, not the need for a skilled doctor to design the hairline.
- FUT (strip). An older approach that removes a strip of scalp and dissects it into grafts. ISHRS still records it — 2,100 grafts per case on average4 — but the Colombian clinics that publish prices lead with FUE.
The method matters less than the planning: donor management, hairline design and graft handling. Ask the doctor to explain why they recommend a method for your case.
06Hair transplant in Medellín, Colombia, or in Bogotá?
Hair transplant Medellín, Colombia. This is where the published prices are: both clinics with public per-graft or starting prices on our list are in Medellín. The city has direct flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Houston and New York, and a mild climate for the few days you’re there. See our Medellín guide if you want to add a day or two.
Hair transplant Bogotá, Colombia. Bogota Hairlines quotes a fixed all-inclusive price based on your Norwood stage, on request only3. Ask for the graft count behind that price so you can compare it with a hair transplant in Medellín on a per-graft basis. Bogotá sits at about 2,640 m, which some visitors feel for the first day.
07The trip, day by day
- Before you flyRemote assessment. Send standardized photos of the front, top and crown. Get a written graft estimate, method and per-graft price. Ask for the doctor’s ID number and check it on ReTHUS.
- Day 1Arrival and consultation. The doctor examines your donor area, confirms the graft count and marks the hairline with you.
- Procedure daySurgery under local anesthesia. Extraction and placement are done in the same session.
- Next dayCheck and first wash. Colombia Care includes the first wash; you get written aftercare instructions.
- Within 48 hoursFly home. Colombia Care says most patients fly home within 48 hours1. Ask how to protect the grafts on the plane.
- Months that followFollow-up from home. Photo check-ins over the follow-up period (12 months at Colombia Care).
08Recovery and results
The first days bring some swelling and small scabs in the treated areas. Transplanted hairs commonly shed in the weeks after surgery before new growth starts, which alarms patients who haven’t been warned. Growth then comes in gradually over many months, and the final result takes longer than most people expect — which is why a year of follow-up is a sensible inclusion.
We don’t give month-by-month milestones here because they vary with the person, the area treated and the method. Ask your doctor for the timeline they expect for your case, in writing, and be wary of any clinic that guarantees a specific density by a specific date.
09How to judge a clinic
People search for the “best hair transplant in Colombia,” but no independent ranking exists and we don’t publish one. What you can check:
- Who does the work. Hair surgery often involves technicians. Ask who plans the case, who makes the recipient sites and who extracts the grafts — and get the answer in writing.
- The doctor’s registration. Every physician practicing in Colombia must be in ReTHUS6. Ask for the doctor’s ID number and look it up — our verification guide shows each screen.
- The clinic’s registration. The clinic should appear in REPS, the national register of licensed providers.
- A per-graft price and graft count in writing. A package price with no graft count is hard to compare and hard to hold anyone to.
- Follow-up. How long, how (photos, video), and what happens if growth is poor.
10Risks, and what recourse you have
A hair transplant is done under local anesthesia and is less invasive than major cosmetic surgery, but it is still surgery: infection, poor graft survival, an unnatural hairline and over-harvesting of the donor area are the problems to ask about. The CDC’s guidance for medical travelers applies here too — patients treated abroad might not have the same legal recourse as at home, and you should bring complete records in English5.
Before paying, ask in writing: how many grafts will be placed and where, what the clinic does if growth falls short, and how follow-up works once you’re home. Standard travel insurance usually excludes treatment trips; our insurance guide explains what is and isn’t covered. For the wider picture, see is surgery in Colombia safe?
