Breast augmentation in Colombia: the 2026 cost, and the records to bring home

Breast augmentation is the second most common cosmetic operation in Colombia after liposuction: ISAPS counted 33,984 there in 2024⁷. It is also one of the shorter trips in cosmetic surgery — a body procedure after which the ASPS suggests five to seven days before flying. The price is lower than in the US; the paperwork you bring home is what protects you for years afterward.

This guide covers what breast augmentation in Colombia costs according to published prices, what those prices include, how they compare with the US and Canada, and what to ask about the implants themselves.

01What does breast augmentation cost in Colombia?

A Medellín plastic surgeon’s 2026 price guide lists breast augmentation at about $5,000, including the implants, the surgeon, anesthesia, the operating room and follow-up, with the final price set after a consultation¹. In Cartagena, Premium Care Plastic Surgery’s listing on Medical Tourism Co. prices breast augmentation combined with lipo 360 at $10,410, with a private recovery suite, transfers, garments, medications and local medical travel insurance included². The Cartagena figure is for two procedures, so it is not a like-for-like comparison.

02What a breast augmentation quote should include

If the surgeon recommends a lift alongside the implants after seeing you in person, the price changes. Ask during the remote consultation whether your photos suggest you might need one, so the quote you travel on is realistic.

03Comparing breast augmentation Colombia prices with the US and Canada

The ASPS average for breast augmentation with implants in the US is $4,875, and $5,719 for augmentation with fat grafting³. Both are the surgeon’s fee only; the ASPS says they do not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses. The Colombian surgeon quote of about $5,000 includes those and the implants, so the gap in total cost is larger than the two headline numbers suggest.

Breast augmentation is a very common operation in the US too: the ASPS counted 304,234 in 2025⁶. For Canadian readers there is no national average we could verify; one Toronto clinic publishes CAD 10,500 and up for saline implants and CAD 12,800 and up for silicone, plus tax⁸ — one clinic’s fee, not a benchmark.

On the Colombian side, add flights, about a week of lodging, local transport and supplemental insurance before comparing.

04Implants, and the card you take home

We have not verified which implant brands any named Colombian practice uses, so ask. Get in writing, before surgery:

1. The manufacturer and model, and whether the implant is approved by the US FDA — this affects how easily a US surgeon can service or replace it.
2. Silicone or saline, round or shaped, smooth or textured.
3. The size, or the range the surgeon will choose from in the operating room.

After surgery, you should leave with the implant card — manufacturer, model, size and lot or serial numbers for each implant — along with the operative report, anesthesia record and medication list. The CDC advises every medical traveler to bring home complete records in English⁵. Without them, a US surgeon handling a future problem or a manufacturer recall is working blind.

06The trip and the flight home

The ASPS suggests waiting five to seven days after body procedures such as liposuction and breast augmentation before flying⁴. If you combine the augmentation with a tummy tuck, the CDC’s guidance of no flying for 10 days after chest or abdominal surgery applies instead⁵.

07How to verify the surgeon

Ask for the surgeon’s full name and cédula number and check it on ReTHUS for a plastic surgery specialty. Look for the surgeon in the SCCP member directory, and check the operating facility in REPS. 08Risks, and what recourse you have

The risks of breast augmentation include infection, bleeding, capsular contracture (scar tissue tightening around the implant), implant rupture, changes in sensation and the need for further surgery. The CDC notes that infections are the most common complications in medical tourists, and that patients treated abroad might not have the same legal recourse as at home⁵. The ASPS adds that there may be no legal recourse if negligence occurs, and that packages give limited follow-up care, if any⁴.

The US State Department’s Colombia advisory is Level 3 — Reconsider travel, and it specifically warns that US citizens have suffered serious complications after cosmetic surgery⁹.
