Tummy tuck in Colombia: what it costs in 2026, and how to plan the ten days after

A tummy tuck is one of the procedures where a trip to Colombia needs the most planning. The operation itself takes a day. The recovery before you can safely fly home takes at least ten, and where you spend those days matters as much as the price.

This guide lays out what surgeons and packages publish for a tummy tuck in Colombia, what those figures cover, how they compare with US and Canadian prices, and how to plan the stay. Every price links to the page it came from.

01What does a tummy tuck cost in Colombia?

Two published figures are verifiable. A Medellín plastic surgeon’s 2026 price guide lists a lipoabdominoplasty — a tummy tuck with liposuction “when indicated” — at $9,000–9,500, with the final quote set after a consultation¹. In Cartagena, Premium Care Plastic Surgery’s listing on Medical Tourism Co. prices an extended tummy tuck with lipo 360 at $11,070, including a private recovery suite, airport transfers, post-op follow-ups, medications, garments and local medical travel insurance².

Those are the only two we could confirm on a surgeon’s or listing’s own page. If you are quoted a much lower tummy tuck price, ask what it leaves out: liposuction, anesthesia, the facility or the follow-ups.

02What a tummy tuck quote should include

The difference between a “tummy tuck” and a “lipoabdominoplasty” quote can be several thousand dollars of liposuction. Make sure two quotes describe the same operation before comparing them.

03Comparing tummy tuck Colombia prices with the US and Canada

The ASPS average for a tummy tuck in the US is $8,174³. That figure is the surgeon’s fee only: the ASPS states that it does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses. A US patient’s total bill is therefore well above $8,174, while the Colombian figures above already include anesthesia and the operating room. US surgeons performed 173,251 tummy tucks in 2025, according to the ASPS⁵.

For Canadian readers there is no national average we could verify. One Toronto clinic publishes a full tummy tuck at CAD 15,300–19,000 and up, plus tax, with liposuction extra⁶. That is one clinic’s fee, not a benchmark.

On the Colombian side, add round-trip flights, at least ten nights of lodging (unless you choose a package that includes a recovery suite), meals, local transport and supplemental insurance. For most patients, the saving is real but smaller than the headline gap suggests.

05Planning the recovery stay

The CDC’s guidance for medical travelers is specific: patients should not fly for 10 days after chest or abdominal surgery. It also notes that both surgery and air travel raise the risk of blood clots⁴. A tummy tuck is abdominal surgery, so the trip is at least ten days after the operation, plus the days before it.

5. Day 10 onwardClearance to fly. Only with your surgeon’s sign-off, carrying the operative report and medication list in English.

Where to recover. Many patients recover in private recovery houses, which offer lodging, meals, transport and nursing. Licensing of health services in Colombia falls under Resolución 3100 de 2019 and is recorded in REPS⁸. Medellín’s official tourism guide says only one post-operative recovery facility in the city holds a licence from the Antioquia health authority⁷ — which means most recovery houses are lodging, not licensed health providers. 06How to verify the surgeon

Ask for the surgeon’s full name and cédula number, check it on ReTHUS for a plastic surgery specialty, and look for the surgeon in the SCCP member directory. Confirm the operating facility in REPS. 07Risks, and what recourse you have

A tummy tuck carries the risks of any major abdominal operation: blood clots, infection, seroma, wound-healing problems and scarring. Most of them can be treated when caught early — which is the argument for staying near your surgeon until you are cleared.

Once home, your options narrow. The CDC notes that patients treated abroad might not have the same legal recourse⁴, and the ASPS says packages give limited follow-up care, if any⁹. Standard travel insurance generally excludes trips taken for treatment — SafetyWing’s policy, for example, excludes charges when the purpose of travel is medical or cosmetic treatment¹⁰. Before paying, agree in writing what the surgeon covers for complications and revisions, and line up a US doctor to see you after you land.
