Medellín tours in 2026: what each one costs, how long it takes, and which to book

Medellín tours are cheap by US standards and easy to book. The same handful of experiences dominates every booking site: the Comuna 13 graffiti walk, the day trip to Guatapé, a coffee farm in the hills, and a street-food or fruit tasting. Each of the top listings has thousands of reviews.

This guide compares what those Medellín tours cost across GetYourGuide, Viator and Tripadvisor, how long they take and what the price covers, and which ones fit around dental work or surgery.

01Medellín tour prices at a glance

Prices below are the “from” price per person shown on GetYourGuide¹, Viator² and Tripadvisor³ for the best-reviewed listings in each category, checked on September 23, 2026. Shared group tours set the low end of each range; private tours and add-ons such as extra meals or a cable-car ride set the top.

02Comuna 13 graffiti tour: $14–28

The Comuna 13 graffiti tour is the most-booked of all Medellín tours. The top GetYourGuide listing — graffiti, cable car and street food, four hours, $21 — has more than 11,000 reviews¹, and Viator’s top Comuna 13 tour with local snacks, three hours at $21, more than 9,000². Shorter walking versions start at $14–16; versions that add a Metrocable ride run to $28.

The tour covers the hillside district on the city’s west side, its murals, hip-hop and the public outdoor escalators in Las Independencias. 03Guatapé and El Peñol day trip: $29–44

The second big one is the day trip east to Guatapé, the lakeside town with painted house fronts, and the granite rock of El Peñol beside it. Shared tours run 10–11 hours for $29–44 and usually include hotel pickup, breakfast, lunch and a boat ride on the reservoir. GetYourGuide’s top Guatapé tour, at $41, has more than 15,000 reviews¹. A private day with your own driver costs about $138–145²³.

Climbing El Peñol means 740 steps and, since January 2026, a flat fee of COP 35,000 per person⁵; check whether your tour includes it. Going independently, buses leave from Terminal del Norte, take about two hours and cost COP 16,000–24,000 each way⁶. Our Guatapé day trip guide compares both.

04Coffee farm tours: $65–104

You don’t need to travel to the coffee region to see how Colombian coffee is grown. Tours from Medellín take four to five hours and run $65–104: GetYourGuide lists a coffee farm tour with a trolley and cable-car ride at $65, Viator a tour with tastings and transport at $75, and Tripadvisor’s best-reviewed half-day “seed to cup” farm and roastery tour at $86, with a private farm tour at $104¹²³. Local operators sell direct too — Nomades charges COP 220,000 for its five-hour tour⁸.

Expect sloped paths on the farm. Tripadvisor also lists a combined Guatapé-and-coffee-farm day at $140.

05City, food and nightlife tours

Nightlife tours: $27–30. Pub crawls with rooftop bars and club entry in El Poblado run four to five hours for $27–30 on all three sites, and a party-bus tour is $30¹²³. Alcohol and a recent anesthetic don’t mix; save nights out for after treatment.

Outdoors. Paragliding over the valley starts at $60 for three hours on Viator and $122 with GoPro footage on GetYourGuide; a waterfall hike runs $45 for five to six hours. Soccer fans can book a matchday tour with a ticket and transport from $60.

06Pablo Escobar tours: what locals think

Escobar tours are sold widely — $25 on GetYourGuide and $40 on Viator for four to five hours, or $95 combined with Comuna 13 on Tripadvisor. Many Medellín residents find them offensive, and the city has taken a clear side: in February 2019 it demolished the Mónaco building, where Escobar’s family lived, and turned the site into the Parque Memorial Inflexión, a memorial to the victims of the cartel years⁷.

If the history interests you, the Comuna 13 tours and the city’s memorials tell it from the side of the people who lived through it. That is the story Medellín itself wants visitors to hear.

07How to book Medellín tours

1. CompareCheck the same tour on two sites. Many operators list on GetYourGuide, Viator and Tripadvisor at slightly different prices.
2. Read the inclusionsMeals, entry fees, pickup. On a Guatapé tour, confirm whether the El Peñol climb fee and lunch are covered.
3. Pick flexibleFree cancellation. Treatment schedules move; choose listings you can cancel without a fee.
4. Group or privatePrivate costs three to four times more but lets you set the pace, stop often and skip stairs — worth it during recovery.
5. Meeting pointGet there by app taxi or metro, not a street-hailed taxi, especially for early pickups and night tours.

08Medellín tours during treatment and recovery

Most tours are best booked before treatment, in the first day or two after you land. Once your dentist or surgeon has cleared you for outings, pick seated, short and flat:
